A Pizza Place (And An Airbnb) In The Berkshires

I recently headed up to the Berkshires for a weekend of skiing and winter fun. What I didn’t realize was the Airbnb I booked was attached to a well regarded pizzeria. Pizzeria Boema (84 Main Street) is located on the main street (hence its address) of the sleepy town of Lenox, Massachusetts. Once my son was asleep each night, it was a treat to be able to walk downstairs — baby monitor in hand — and enjoy a pie and a drink. If you’re looking for a weekend away that involves some pizza, it doesn’t get more convenient than this.

What’s Unique: Pizzeria Boema boasts a full menu of salads and appetizers along with a dozens pizzas + five more vegan pies. I dined there two nights in a row and their Caesar salad was the only underwhelming dish I had. You’re here for the pizza anyway. Not only are their pies moderately priced at less than $20 each, but there are a number of free “Add Ons” which other pizzerias might charge you for. They include: balsamic drizzle, truffle drizzle, hot honey, basil pesto, truffled balsamic, and ranch drizzle (other additions including roasted cauliflower and fresh arugula will run you $1). The interior of the of the restaurant looks like it belongs in Brooklyn. But the place to be is a rustic, heated barn out back (although given the range of my baby monitor, I opted to eat in the main restaurant).

What To Eat: The first night I dined at Pizzeria Boema, I had a margherita pie (given the free topping additions, I decided to add basil pesto… and they didn’t skimp!). The pesto was a nice complement to a margheria pie that would have been nearly perfect even without the addition. On night two I went for a pie from the “White Pizza” section of the menu: The Garlic Goat (whole roasted garlic clove, goat cheese, finished with fresh arugula & a hot honey drizzle). While post-oven arugula often makes me feel like I’m eating a salad on a pizza, I still enjoyed this pie. You can never put too much garlic on a pizza in my opinion and this one could have used a few more cloves.

What To Know Before You Go: Book the Airbnb upstairs. If you’re a parent, you can put your kid(s) to sleep and walk downstairs. If there are no kids in the picture, all the better. Drink your way through their extensive wine list and then stumble home (no Uber or driving required). Make sure to add some of their free toppings to your pizzas. And see if you can snag a table in their back barn area. If it’s summer, pre-game with a hike. In winter, hit up a local ski resort like Bousquet. You’re less than three hours away from New York or Boston, making it an ideal getaway for a long weekend.

About I Dream Of Pizza

Some guys dream about winning the Powerball jackpot, making love to Kate Upton, or scoring the winning touchdown in the Super Bowl. But personally, I spend most of my time dreaming about digging my face into a mouth watering slice of pizza. Fireworks are ignited. Music comes out of nowhere. And just like that, I’ve fallen in love once again. Since 2008, I've chronicled my pizza eating adventures in New York City and around the world on I Dream Of Pizza -- the web's most popular blog dedicated entirely to pizza.
